Columbia, S.C. –
Rain in the Columbia area caused tournament officials to cancel the consolation portion of the 2003 Wachovia South Carolina Junior Hardcourt Tennis Championships. Play was forced to go indoors as rains entered the area this morning.

Wyatt Boylston, of Lexington, was crowned champion in the Boys’ 18s singles after defeating Jeff Muthig 6-3, 6-1. Muthig, of Columbia, was attempting to make the championship sweep after teaming up with Hunter Strasburger to win the doubles championship on Monday.

In the Girls’ 18s singles tournament, top-seeded Lauren Brown of Gaffney outlasted second-seeded Sarah Ann Moyer 6-3-6-2 to take home the title.

In Girls’ 12s singles action, third-seeded Alexis Prickett, of Columbia, defeated top-seeded Irene Zhou 6-3, 6-1 to move on to the finals. Prickett, who is playing singles in the 12 year-old bracket despite being only 10 years old, will attempt to take home both a doubles and singles trophy when she faces Christine Corontzes on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the USC Indoor Tennis Facility. Corontzes was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Elizabeth Trancik.

Because of expected rain, all consolation matches have been cancelled. Only main draw finals and third place playoff will be played. All Wednesday matches will be played at the USC Indoor Tennis Facility beginning at 8:30 a.m.
