COLUMBIA, S.C. – Gamecock golfers Jake Thompson and Alex Hamilton finished twelfth and thirteenth, respectively, at the Elizabeth Manor Eastern Amateur, in Portsmouth, Va. Thompson shot a ten-under-par total of 278 (67-69-71-71) to place him in a tie for twelfth place. Hamilton was right behind Thompson in thirteenth place with a total of 279 (71-72-68-68).
Jason Huguet fired a one-under-par 288 (67-73-70-77) and Jonathan Jackson shot a 293 (75-71-76-71). All four USC golfers made the cut when the field was reduced to 92 golfers after two rounds of play.
Braxton Wynns of Buies Creek, N.C., defeated Ramon Bescansa in a playoff to capture the championship. The Elizabeth Manor Eastern Amateur, held at the Elizabeth Manor Golf and Country Club, is one of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the country. U.S. Open champions who have competed in the Eastern Amateur include Hale Irwin, Scott Simpson, Curtis Strange, and Tom Kite.
