Former USC standout Tonique Williams advanced to the 400m finals winning her semifinal heat on Monday. The Bahamas native clocked a time of 50.43 to advance. Williams was a two-time All-American for the Gamecocks and ran in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. In 1998, she captured the SEC 400m title.

Demetria Washington ran a time of 51.31 and finished fourth in her semi-final heat. She did not advance to the event finals.

The women’s 400m finals will be contested Wednesday, Aug. 27. The IAAF World Championships continue Monday in Paris and continue through Sunday, August 31.
