Columbia, S.C. – Riding a three-game winning streak, the South Carolina women’s soccer team heads back on the road this weekend for the UGA/Nike Tournament in Athens, Ga. in which the Gamecocks will face Georgia Southern and Liberty. Carolina faces Georgia Southern (3-4) on Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. and closes the weekend out vs. Liberty (1-6-1) on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. USC is 5-3-1 and ranked ninth in the Southeast Region.

“We have to finish off our preparations for SEC play this weekend,” said USC head coach Shelley Smith. “Our team has done well to be more consistent. Hopefully we can continue to do that and we would like to come away with two more wins before Auburn comes to town next week.”

South Carolina is 4-1 in series history vs. Georgia Southern and will be playing Liberty for the first time in school history. USC last met Georgia Southern in 1999 when the Gamecocks earned a 1-0 victory at Georgia Southern.

USC is fresh off a 2-0 win at Wofford on Wednesday evening behind goals from freshman M.A. Foster and senior Erica Bowie. Senior goalkeeper Elise Matthews notched her second straight shutout in the win and now owns a goals against average of 0.86.

The Gamecocks return to Stone Stadium on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. vs. Auburn to open the SEC regular season. Carolina will also face Alabama on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.
