Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolina fell to Clemson 1-0 at Historic Riggs Field in Clemson, S.C. The lone goal of the game came at the 77:16 minute mark in the second half on a penalty kick by Paul Souders as he beat Carolina goalkeeper Brad Guzan to his right side. Guzan recorded four saves on the match.

“It was a hard fought game,” commented Head Coach Mark Berson. “It wasn’t the prettiest game, there were a lot of mistakes, but the fighting power was there and that is what you expect in a game like this.”

Both teams were held scoreless during the first half of play. Carolina tallied five shots including a free kick by Jack Cummings from 21-yards out that forced a save by Clemson’s goalkeeper Hunter Gilstrap

The Gamecocks, 7-3-0, will return home for a two-match home stand at Eugene Stone III Stadium. The first match will feature South Carolina against Elon on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 12, USC will face Wake Forest at 2:00 p.m.
