Columbia, S.C. – Scott Sealy scored two goals and William Hesmer recorded a shutout as No. 7 Wake Forest defeated the No. 25 South Carolina men’s soccer team 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at Stone Stadium. The win improves Wake Forest to 7-3 while the loss drops South Carolina to 7-5 on the year. USC freshman goalkeeper Brad Guzan recorded 10 saves on the afternoon for Carolina including a brilliant dive save on a penalty kick in the second half.

The Demon Deacons broke open a 1-0 lead at 29:38 as Sealy scored from five yards out off a cross from Steven Curfman. Wake Forest would score at 36:54 to take a two-goal advantage as Tomy Szczypiorski took a long serve from Ryan Caugherty and knocked a shot in to the corner past Guzan.

Carolina looked to break close to the Demon Deacons controlling the offense midway into the second half. Ayo Akinsete and Jack Cummings each had shots on the Wake goal from inside the “18” but Hesmer continued to deny the Carolina attack.

Wake Forest scored its third goal at 85:07 with Sealy’s second goal of the match. Sealy knocked in a rebound from a shot by Adam Hakes that went off the crossbar for the third goal of the afternoon. Hakes put in the final goal of the match at 88:42 from near the “18” mark off a misplay by the Carolina defense.

South Carolina returns to the road on Wednesday, October 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Charlotte and on Sunday, October 19 with a 2 p.m. match at Furman.
