COLUMBIA, S.C. – Action continued at the 2003 USC Fall Men’s Tennis Invitational Saturday at the Sam Daniel Tennis and Columbia Tennis Centers at the University of South Carolina. Ben Atkinson led the charge for South Carolina as he advanced to the Singles Consolation Final.
Atkinson advanced after his semifinal opponent Bastain Moldehnke retired following an injury. It was a tough day for the Gamecocks otherwise. Geraldo Knorr fell 6-2, 6-4 to Andrew Hamar while teammate Carl Wermee fell 6-3, 6-2 to Brett Ross. Rob Cassidy suffered a tough defeat, falling 3-6, 7-5, and 6-1 to Moises Serrano.
In doubles action, Atkinson and Wermee fell to the duo of Ross and Spice 8-4. Meanwhile Otani paired up with N.C. State’s Johson and fell 8-4 to Arhammas and Mengisteab.
Action at the USC Fall Invitational concludes Sunday.
