Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina swimming and diving opens its home schedule on Friday October 31 at 3 p.m. with the Gamecocks hosting Virginia at the Carolina Natatorium. Both the Carolina men’s and women’s squads are 1-1 in dual meet action heading into tomorrow afternoon’s meet.

Last weekend the Carolina women’s team placed fifth out of six teams in the SMU Classic. Junior diver Holly Hodges earned Most Outstanding Diver honors after winning both the one-meter and three-meter competitions for the Gamecocks. The Carolina 200 Freestyle Relay team (Heather Skaggs, Jennifer VanAssen, Carolynn McHugh, Ashleigh Bastak) also had a solid effort, finishing in second place at 1:34.63, just .17 seconds off Florida’s first place time.

Last time out for the Carolina men’s squad, All-Americans Istvan Bathazi, Andy Bradley and Tamas Szucs led the way in dual meet action at Clemson. Bathazi won three events for the Gamecocks (1000 freestyle, 200 IM, 200 breast), Bradley took home first place on both the one-meter and three-meter diving boards and Szucs was top finisher in the 200 and 500 freestyle events.
