Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolina men’s golf team is tied for first place with Virginia after firing a two-round score of 15-over-par 591 (297-294) on Monday. The Gamecocks and Cavaliers battled winds gusting over 30 mph at times and are one stroke ahead of the University of San Francisco. Play resumes on Tuesday at the Links of Turtle Bay (par 72, 7,199 yards) in Kahuku, Hawaii.

The Gamecocks placed three golfers in the top-10 on Monday. Eirik Johansen (72-71) and Robert Svensson (71-72) each fired a one-under-par 143 to place them in a tie for third place. Johansen and Svensson, who is playing as an individual, are one stroke behind co-leaders Alvaro Velasco of Coastal Carolina and Jordan Madison of Washington State. Also in the top 10 for the Gamecocks was Alex Hamilton. Hamilton (74-71) fired a 145 to place him in a tie for sixth. Martin Rominger (76-74) shot a 150 to put him in a tie for 23rd. Rounding out the scoring for the Gamecocks were West Streib (75-78) and Jonathan Jackson (77-78), who fired 153 and 155 respectively.

The tournament, which is being hosted by the University of Hawaii, will conclude Tuesday.
