Columbia, S.C. – Sophomore forward Lawson Vaughn’s goal with four minutes left in regulation evened the match as South Carolina battled back to tie College of Charleston 2-2. Goalkeeper Brad Guzan contributed with four saves.

“I’m proud of the team, they showed a lot of character late in the game,” commented Head Coach Mark Berson. “We’re not satisfied with a tie, but we showed a lot of character and guts to come back.”

During first half play freshman goalkeeper Brad Guzan kept the match scoreless making three key saves. The Gamecocks opened the scoring seven minutes into the second half when freshman Makan Hislop broke through the box to net his first goal of his career. College of Charleston came back 17 minutes later with two goals of their own three minutes apart to take a 2-1 lead.

The Gamecocks, 8-6-2, will match up against the University of North Carolina on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at Eugene Stone III Stadium. The final regular home match of the year will feature “Recreation Night.” Any kid who wears their youth soccer jersey will get in free to the match.
