Orange Beach, Alabama – South Carolina women’s soccer (10-7-3, 3-4-2 SEC) opens SEC Tournament action on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. ET as the eighth seeded Gamecocks face top seed Tennessee (13-4-1, 7-1-1 SEC) in the first of four quarterfinal matches. South Carolina and Tennessee previously met on October 12 when the Lady Volunteers defeated Carolina 3-2 in Knoxville. Tennessee leads the series history 7-0-1 and are the only SEC team that South Carolina has yet to defeat. Carolina tied Tennessee 1-1 in the 2002 season in Columbia.
Looking back at Carolina and Tennessee, Sue Flamini’s goal at 85:03 broke a 2-2 tie as Tennessee defeated Carolina 3-2 this season. Carolina has bounced back from a 2-0 deficit with goals from freshmen forwards Jessi Swaim and M.A. Foster to tie the match before Flamini’s goal with under five minutes remaining secured a Tennessee victory.
