South Carolina swimming & diving heads to Baton Rouge, La. on Friday in hopes of capturing a win for both the men’s and women’s squads in their first SEC Match of the season. The Gamecocks begin action at 6 pm. Both squads are 1-2 in dual action meet so far.
Last Friday, Carolina fell to the Virginia Cavaliers at the Carolina Natatorium. Despite the loss, there were several individual performances that stood out. For the men, Ed Murphy won the 50 and 100-yard freestyle and Tamas Szucs won the 200-yard freestyle. The 400-yard relay team also captured a win. For the men’s divers, Andy Bradley took home a win in the one-meter dive and Dean Emmerton won the three-meter dive.
Last time out for the women, Jennifer Van Assen led the way after reaching an NCAA B Standard last week in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.99. Heather Skaggs won the 50-yard freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle relay team also won with a time of 3:29.94. The women’s divers finished in the top three in the three-meter event with Allison Brennan taking first. Lindsay Havens took home a win in the one-meter event.
