Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolina women’s basketball team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 96-66 win over the Florida A&M Rattlers. The Gamecocks had six players scoring in double figures on the night and two of them recording a double-double.
The Gamecocks opened the game with a 26-8 run over the first nine and a half minutes but the Rattlers would finally get their offense going. Florida A&M would cut the USC lead to 10 points twice in the final six minutes but would never get it into single digits as South Carolina would take a 41-26 lead into half.
In the second half, USC would remain hot. The Gamecocks shot 22 of 30 from the field to outscore the Rattlers 55-40 in the final half.
On offense, South Carolina was led by Lauren Simms in the 30 point win. Simms led all USC scorers with 19 points, with 10 coming in the first half. Kelly Morrone scored 18 points with 13 of them coming in the final half. Cristina Ciocan totaled 10 points but posted a career high and a new USC single game record 18 assists. Iva Sliskovic scored 15 of her 17 points coming in the first half. Sliskovic posted nine of her 15 first half points in the first six minutes of the game. Olga Gritsaeva posted 12 points and brought down 13 boards.
The Gamecocks return to action on December 5th in Albuquerque, New Mexico when they participate in the Southwest Airlines Lobo Shootout. USC will face Southern Utah on Friday at 10 p.m. and will play either Tennessee State or New Mexico on Saturday.
