COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina’s Eirik Johansen has been named the Southeastern Conference’s Men’s Golfer of the Week after finishing second at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate and helping the Gamecocks to a record-setting 27-stroke victory in the event in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

Johansen recorded his fifth top-10 finish in six tournaments in 2003-04 by finishing alone in second place as part of a strong field at the Mercedes-Benz. The sophomore carded a closing-round score of 5-under-par 67, notching seven birdies over the 18 holes, to finish with a 54-hole score of 2-under-par, 71-76-67-214.

The team win by South Carolina was its second in as many outings and the 27-stroke margin of victory broke the previous Mercedes-Benz Collegiate record by 12 shots.

On the year, the Stavanger, Norway, native has finished outside of the top seven only once in six events, recording a pair of second-place finishes. His 72.13 stroke average is tops on the South Carolina team, as are his 11 rounds of par or better this year.
