– Dave Odom, South Carolina: “We certainly played one of the best teams not only in this league, but in the country. TimmyBowers dribbled down and hit the big three pointer at the end. A big shot by a big player. Obviously, a key point in the game came when we had the 12 point lead with 5 ? minutes to go, they went to a ? court trap. We handled it poorly. I was surprised that we did. We made three turnovers in a row at one point. Why? I don’t know the answer why. Maybe we came unglued at the end, I don’t know. They turned the heat up and we didn’t respond. I told the team after the game. The next step for this program to take is the hardest. I will be sorely disappointed if this affects us Saturday night. Rolando played very well against a great player in Lawrence Roberts. We played some of our best basketball of the season from the 14 minute to the 5 minute mark.”
Rick Stansbury, Mississippi State: “Coach Odom has done a terrific job with South Carolina and you obviously can tell by their 19-5 record so far. About our guys, I am extremely proud of our basketball team. They came into a tough environment and played a good basketball team. We didn’t shoot the ball very well and when we were down 12 points we battled back and forced overtime. We have a lot of weapons and unbelievable toughness. We played four guys tonight who had over 40 minutes and that shows you what our team is made of.”
