COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina Head Coach Kent DeMars achieved yet another milestone in his storied 31 years as a collegiate head coach – this time notching his 300th win at Carolina – as the No. 24 Gamecocks won 7-0. South Carolina (5-0) remains perfect in regional play while Charlotte falls to 2-5 on the year.

“Well, I guess winning 300 matches here just means they’ve kept me around long enough to get a few wins,” joked Carolina Head Coach Kent DeMars. “Milestones are nice to have but in a team sport it matters how we do as a team. It is always nice to achieve a milestone though and being in such a good place and good situation will accomplish that.”

Carolina won the doubles point very quickly as Geraldo Knorr and Pedro Rodrigues tallied an 8-1 victory over Arturo Aguirre and Dorian Host

“It’s always nice to reach a milestone, but in a team sport it matters what we do as a team. We have a good team this year and it will be interesting to see how we turn out, especially considering the extremely difficult conference we compete in.”

while Tom Eklund and Marcus Westman easily swept past the 49er team of Marlo Santoso and Jonathan Clark in an 8-3 victory.

In singles action, Eklund remained perfect in singles play this season with an easy 6-2, 6-1 victory over Clark at No. 2 singles. Marcus Westman also rolled to a 6-3, 6-3 No. 1 singles victory over Arturo Aguirre. This was the second time that Aguirre has dropped a singles match to Westman. The two faced each other at the ITA Regional Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C. last October with Westman tallying the 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 victory.

The Gamecocks now face Davidson in the second match of the Sunday’s doubleheader.
