COLUMBIA, S.C. – Tom Eklund extended his singles win streak to seven matches as the No. 24 South Carolina men’s tennis team rolled over the Richmond Spiders 6-1 Saturday. South Carolina extended their winning streak to seven consecutive matches this season and advanced their record to 7-0 while Richmond fell to 1-10 on the year.
Ben Atkinson and Carl Wermee won at No. 2 doubles to start off the day and maintained their perfect duo record as they easily won 8-0 over David Donn and Jeppy Moss. Tom Eklund and Marcus Westman won at No. 1 doubles over Derek Schwandt and Matthew Cabana, 8-2, to seal the doubles point.
In singles action, Carl Wermee easily won at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Matt Stillwagon. Kazuya Otani recorded his first dual match win of the season after his opponent, Charlie Seltzer, retired early on due to injury. Tom Eklund also notched a win at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-4, over Schwandt.
South Carolina returns to the court Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m., taking on the Wofford Terriers.
