Athens, GA – The University of South Carolina Swimming and Diving teams opened up the SEC Championships in Athens, Georgia at The Ramsey Center. USC qualified 3 swimmers for the consolation and Istvan Bathazi qualified for the finals this evening as well as diver Andy Bradley.

Two-time Hungarian Olympian, Istvan Bathazi finished fourth in the 400 Individual Medley with a time of 3:49.97.”Istvan had a very strong outing today and he should do well tonight” stated Head Coach Don Gibb.

For the women, Heather Skaggs, Ashleigh Bastak, and Carolynn McHugh made it to the consolation round of the 50 yard freestyle finishing 11th, 12th and 13th respectively. Coach Gibb says that he is looking forward to their performances this evening.

“We are not where we wanted to be this morning but this evening we should do well. I am looking forward to the 800 free relay tonight” stated Coach Gibb.

For the men’s prelim 3 meter diving, Andy Bradley made it to the finals this evening by placing 7th. Also diving for the men were Ian Balman and Dean Emmerton. “Dean and Ian did really well today” stated Head Diving Coach Todd Sherritt. Sherritt also believes that Bradley has the opportunity to move up in the finals tonight. “We are competing against some of the best divers in the nation right now” stated Sherritt, “and I believe that we did well against them.”

Finals begin this evening at 6:30.
