South Carolina junior forward Carlos Powell has been named to the Associated Press All-Southeastern Conference men’s basketball team released today. The SEC Coaches awards will be announced tomorrow.
Powell, a native of Florence, S.C., is averaging 12.4 ppg and 6.3 rpg – both tops on the team. He has started 27 games, playing in all 30 games this season. He has helped lead the Gamecocks to a 21-9 record with an 8-8 record in the SEC. USC finished third in the SEC Eastern Division and will play Arkansas in the First Round of the SEC Tournament on Thursday in Atlanta at 3:15 pm.
It is a first time honor for Powell. He is the second player under Odom to receive All-SEC honors as Jamel Bradley was named to the SEC Coaches third team in 2002. He is the first Gamecock to be named to an AP All-SEC team since Marius Petravicius was named third team in 2001.
