Columbia,S.C. – The University of South Carolina finished second in Western and Hunt Seat at the IHSA competition at Berry College on Saturday February 28th and 29th. On Sunday, USC finished first in Hunt Seat and third in Western. Other schools that competed over the weekend were Judson College, Clemson University, Lander College, Wallace State and North Georgia College. This was the second time USC traveled to Berry this season.

The Hunt Seat class finished second behind Berry on Saturday. Freshman Carly Johns helped USC by winning the Open Flat Class. On Sunday, there were many riders who helped the Gamecocks. Freshman Laura O’Sullivan and Co-Captain Tara Brothers won their respective classes.

The Gamecocks finished second behind Berry College on Saturday. USC lost by two points to host Berry College. Sophomore Courtney Borton, Freshman Elizabeth Briley and Freshman Ashleigh Collins contributed by finishing first or second in each class.

Freshman Sarah Lowe was named High Point Rider for Sunday’s competition. Lowe finished first in Intermediate Flat and Fences. The Bend Ore., native, Brothers was named Reserve High Point in Hunt Seat. Brothers placed second in Open Flat and Fences.

The Gamecocks’ next competition is the Region 2, Zone 5 Regional IHSA Finals, which will be held in Erskine, S.C. on March 20th. The time for the Regional IHSA Finals has not been announced.
