COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina dominated day two of the Weems Baskin Relays with 12 event victories and nine NCAA automatic qualifying marks. Leading the way for USC was Lashinda Demus, who recorded two automatic times in a pair of race victories, and Precious Akins who won two field events with automatic marks.

Lashinda Demus earned two wins and posted automatic qualifying times in each.

Demus and Ronnetta Alexander each ran automatic qualifying times to finish 1-2 in the women’s 100m hurdles. Demus’ time of 13.45 paced the field while Alexander finished with a time of 13.64. Demus also went on to a victory in the 800m with an automatic qualifying time of 2:09.16. Carolina completed a sweep of the 800m races when Shawn Cunningham finished first in the men’s race with a time 1:52.78.

Akins topped the field in the women’s shot put with a automatic qualifying mark of 14.24m/46’8.75″. She also recorded an automatic mark in the discus throw with a distance of 49.24m/161’6″ to finish second in the event, trailing only former Gamecock Dawn Ellerbe.

Shevon Stoddart won the women’s 400m hurdles with an automatic qualifying time of 58.76 while Fred Townsend finished first in the men’s 110m hurdles with a automatic time of 13.80.

Tony Allmond and Greig Cryer finished 1-2 and each posted NCAA automatic qualifying marks in the long jump. Allmond posted a winning mark of 26’0″ while Cryer reached 24’11”.

Tony Antonio led a 1-2-4 USC finish in the discus throw with a distance of 49.84m/163’6″. Tyler Trout placed second with a mark of 47.03m/154’3″ while Adam Bishop finished fourth with a distance of 45.87m/150’6″ for the Gamecocks. Bishop placed second in the shot put with a mark of 16.28m/53’5″, just short of the automatic qualifying mark, and was the top collegiate competitor in the field..

USC swept the 3000m steeplechase as Steve Mance won the men’s race with a time of 9:34.10 and Mary Wright won the women’s race with a time of 12:48.61.

Jenny Lake earned the win in the women’s 1500m with a time of 4:38.94 as USC had four of the top five finishers with Tristan Rackow placing second, Mary Claire Utsey fourth and Nicki Breves fifth.

Chelsea Hammond and Reanna Townsend finished 1-2 for USC in the women’s high jump with a height of 1.65m/5’5″.

The USC women’s 4×400 relay team of Chiquita Martin, Shay Shelton, Khalilah Carpenter and Tawana Watkins won with a time of 3:40.24. Carolina also posted relay victories in the women’s 1600 sprint medley (4:05.80) and men’s 4x100m (41.71),
