STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. — After posting a team score of 10-under-par in the first round and taking the team lead, the South Carolina men’s golf team was unable to build on that momentum and is in fourth place after two rounds of play at the Atlanta Intercollegiate in Stockbridge, Ga. The 54-hole tournament is being contested at the par-72, 6,899-yard Eagle’s Landing Country Club.

The Gamecocks opened the day in fine fashion, carding a pair of rounds in the 60s, including a 6-under-par, 66 by sophomore Eirik Johansen, who held the individual lead after 18 holes, to post the opening round score of 10-under-par, 278. South Carolina then finished the day with a team score of 1-over-par, 289, to stand at 9-under-par, 278-289=567. That total is 12 shots off the blistering pace of team leader and top-ranked Florida, which is at 21-under-par, 279-276=555 entering Tuesday’s final round.

In the individual standings, the Gamecocks have a trio of players in the top 10, as Johansen is joined by fellow sophomore Jake Thompson and junior Martin Rominger in a tie for 10th place. Johansen followed his opening-round 66 with a 75 in the afternoon to stand at 3-under-par, 66-75=141. Thompson shot a 72 to begin the day and closed with a 3-under-par 69 to stand at 72-69=141, while Rominger finished the day at 68-73=141. Those scores are six shots behind individual leader Jack Ferguson of Clemson, who is at 9-under-par, 70-65=135.

The remaining South Carolina individuals in the field include junior Alex Hamilton, who is one of 10 players tied for 22nd place at even-par, 72-72=144 and sophomore Robert Svensson, who is tied for 60th place at 78-78=156.

The Atlanta Intercollegiate will conclude on Tuesday with the final round of play. Full tournament results can be found at www.georgiastate.com.
