AUGUSTA, Ga. – The South Carolina men’s golf team found scoring conditions difficult along with the rest of the field and is in 11th place through 34 holes of the Cleveland Golf/Augusta State Invitational in Augusta, Ga. Play was suspended when darkness fell over the par-72, 7,231-yard Forest Hills Golf Club.

The Gamecocks finished the first round with a team score of 5-over-par, 293 and are at 10-over-par with two holes to play in the second round. That total is 17 shots off the pace of team leader UCLA, which is at 7-under-par, and joins Wake Forest (1-under-par) as the only two teams in red figures.

Jake Thompson leads the South Carolina individuals in the field, as he is part of six-way tie for fifth place at 3-under-par through 34 holes. Thompson carded an opening-round score of 2-under-par 70 in the morning and is one under in his second round. Steve Conway of UCLA and Bill Haas of Wake Forest are the individual leaders at six under par, as both will complete their second rounds on Sunday.

The next Gamecock individual in the field is Alex Hamilton, who finished the first round with a 1-under-par, 71, but is three over in the afternoon and tied for 34th place with seven other players. West Streib, who is tied for 52nd place through 35 holes, after an opening-round 75, follows Hamilton. Martin Rominger and Eirik Johansen each finished their first two rounds on Saturday and are tied for 59th and 83rd with scores of 77-73-150 and 77-78-155, respectively.

The Cleveland Golf/Augusta State Invitational will conclude on Sunday with the completion of the second round and the final round of competition. Full tournament results and live scoring are available at www.golfstatlive.com.
