ATLANTA – Competing against a number of post-collegiates, USC’s men’s and women’s track and field teams posted six wins on the women’s side and two victories on the men’s side.

USC will host the South Carolina State Championship on Wednesday, April 7 at Weems Baskin Track and Field.

On the women’s side, Lashinda Demus won the women’s 400m with a time of 51.70. Teammate Stephanie Smith was second at 51.96.

India Odom, opening up at this meet outdoors, threw 50’8 1/4 to win the shot put. The mark, a regional qualifier, was just 1 1/4 off her personal best.

Precious Akins continued to pace the Gamecocks with the discus, throwing 164’8. She already has a regional qualifier with a mark of 168′ 5 at the Florida Relays last weekend.

Shevon Stoddart won the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.35.

USC won both the 4x100m relay (44.63) and the 4x400m relay (3:37.41).

On the men’s side, Rodney Martin was first in the 200m with a time of 20.90.

The men’s 4x100m relay won with a time of 40.22.

USC also posted a number of second place finishes: Smith was second in the 200m at 23.54; Khalilah Carpenter was second in the 100m at 11.51; Shay Shelton was second in the 800m (2:09.82); Kemesha Whitmire was second in the long jump at 19′ 7 1/2.
