ST. SIMON’S ISLAND, GA. – Junior Alex Hamilton capped a solid week, recording his best finish of the year with tie for fifth at the SEC Championship. As a team South Carolina dropped three places on the final day and placed seventh in St. Simon’s Island, Ga. The 54-hole tournament was contested at the Sea Island Golf Club’s par-70, 6,898-yard Seaside Course.

The Gamecocks were unable to build on their momentum from the second round and finished with a team round of 14-over-par, 294 on Sunday to finish play in the tournament at 294-281-294-869. That score was 26 strokes off the pace of team champion Georgia, which won by one shot over Florida, with a 54-hole score of 3-over-par, 269-291-283-843.

Hamilton was South Carolina’s most consistent performer in the event as he closed play with a final-round score of 2-over-par, 72, for a 54-hole total of 1-over-par, 71-68-72-211. He was four shots behind individual champion Brendon Todd of Georgia, who finished with a three-round score of 3-under-par, 66-72-69-207.

Junior Martin Rominger was the next Gamecock individual in the field as he carded a 1-over-par, 71 on Sunday, and tied with three other players for 25th place at 72-76-71-219. Rominger was followed by fellow junior Jake Thompson, who tied for 39th place at 77-69-77-223.

Rounding out the South Carolina contingent in the field were sophomores Eirik Johansen and West Streib, both of whom were part of a five-way tie for 42nd place with scores of 74-74-76-224 and 79-70-75-224, respectively.

The Gamecocks will now wait for the announcement of the NCAA Championship field on May 10, to see which NCAA Regional site they will be competing at on May 20-22. Full tournament results from the SEC Championship are available at www.secsports.com.
