COLUMBIA, S.C. – Members of the South Carolina men’s golf team were recently honored for their outstanding work in the classroom and in the community by both the University and the Southeastern Conference.

Ten members of the team were named as USC Scholar Athletes. The award is given to Gamecock student-athletes that post a grade point average of 3.0 or above during the school year. Heading up the list were Dean’s List honorees Eirik Johansen (Stavanger, Norway), David Kite (Austin, Texas), Matt Robinson (Rock Hill, S.C.), Martin Rominger (Pontresina, Switzerland), Jake Thompson (Greenville, S.C.), and West Streib (Atlanta, Ga.), who was a Dean’s List member in both semesters during the school year. Also on the list with a 3.0 GPA or above were: Nash Elliott (Estill, S.C.), Alex Hamilton (Aiken, S.C.), Jason Huguet (Greenville, S.C.) and Robert Svensson (Molby, Sweden).

Along with his academic honors from South Carolina, sophomore West Streib was named as a member of the SEC’s first annual men’s golf Good Works Team. The team recognizes student-athletes from each conference school that give back to their community in superior service efforts. Streib has been actively involved during his time with the Gamecocks, reading to children at Burton Pack Elementary, along with serving as a keynote speaker at the Busbee Middle School Athletic Banquet. He has visited with special needs students at Harbison West Elementary and volunteered at the Next Step Foot Clinic at Christ Central Ministries.
