South Carolina senior Adrienne Gautreaux will participate in the 2004 NCAA Golf Championships from Tuesday, May 18th through Friday, May 21st. The 72-hole event will take place at the Grand National Lake Course in Opelika, Alabama (par 72, 6215 yards) and features 24 of the best women’s collegiate teams who advanced through the East, Central and West Regionals held May 6-8th.
Gautreaux qualified by posting the top score in the East Regional by a individual not on a team that qualified for the Championships. Each Regional sends two individuals with Gautreaux and East Carolina’s Adrienne Millican representing the East. Both of the Adrienne’s finished in a tie for ninth place in the East Regional with a three-day score of six-over-par 222.
The senior from Mabank, Texas, leads the Gamecock squad with a 74.60 stroke average. She posted a career-low 69 twice during the 2003-04 season, once at the Liz Murphey Invitational and at the Mason Rudolph Championships.
This will be Gautreaux’s third appearance at the NCAA Championships, but first as an individual competitor. Last year, she finished in a tie for 61st place with a 310 (+22) during the four rounds. Her lowest round of the event came on the third day when she carded a three-over par 75. As a sophomore, the Gamecock team captain earned a share of 95th place with a 308 (+20), with her low round of 74 coming in the first round.
