Columbia, S.C. –
Seven champions were crowned on the final day of the 2004 Wachovia Junior Hardcourt Championships. Rain entered the Columbia area and forced the final day of competition indoors.

In Girls’ 18 singles, top-seeded Renee Joseph of Rock Hill defeated Blythewood’s Carolina Ferrell 6-1, 6-4 to win the bracket. In the Girls’ 14 bracket, Mallory Cecil completed an impressive run by topping Amanda Maletek in impressive fashion 6-1, 6-0. Cecil and Maletek were doubles partners and champions in the Girls’ 16 doubles bracket.

Top-seeded Ross Meyer, of Florence, defeated Ralph Walker 6-0, 6-3 to win the Boys’ 16 singles tournament. In the consolation bracket, Caleb Barnes of Irmo was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over John Hairston. In doubles action, Barnes took home another title by teaming up with Ben Taylor to defeat Hairston and Ross Moyer 8-6.

In Boys’ 14 singles action, Zachary Rigsby was crowned champion by knocking off Thomas Ligon 6-4, 6-3. Will McArthur, of Columbia, defeated Zach Sprouse 6-1, 6-3 to take home the consolation title.

Second-seeded Matthew Canelon, of Florence, out dueled Logan Woolard 6-4, 6-3 to win the Boys’ 12 singles title. In doubles action, Nathan Crocker and Marshall Rowe were crowned doubles champions by defeating Logan and Scott Claggett in a thrilling fashion 9-7.
