Bertagne, France – The South Carolina trio of Ilona Burgrova, Lea Fabbri and Iva Sliskovic began medal play competition at the 2004 FIBA U-20 European Championships in the quarterfinals on Friday. Gamecock signee Ilona Burgrova and her native country The Czech Repubic defeated The Slovak Republic 74-69 advancing to the semifinals to face Russia on Saturday. Croatia, with Fabbri and Sliskovic, lost to France 91-45. Croatia will continue competition vs. Ukarine on Saturday aftenroon.
Burgrova scored seven points and added five rebounds in the win for the Czech Republic. In her last game of the prelims two days before, she went for double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Fabbri and Sliskovic showcased their talents despite the tough loss to France. Fabbri led Croatia on the offensive side with 17 points while Burgrova was a presence inside with seven points and five rebounds.
