If you love projections – you will love this if you are a Gamecock fan!

The University of South Carolina-affiliated Olympic athletes are now projected to win 10 medals by USA Today this week and 10 medals as projected by this week’s Sports Illustrated in the same events (different places). Remember – these are just projections. They are are based on world rankings, competition results and input from national and international governing bodies of Olympic sports and other insiders for medal projections.

The Olympic Games run Aug. 13 – 29. Make sure to stay tuned to uscsports.com for EXCLUSIVE coverage of all the Gamecocks.

Another note – USC Head Coach Curtis Frye is an Assistant Coach with the USA women’s team and will be responsible for the 4x100m relay and the sprints.

The Sports Illustrated, which included a feature on USC volunteer coach Allen Johnson, picks Gamecock-affiliated athletes to win the following medals:

Gamecock Men’s Medals:

400m
Bronze – Otis Harris

110m hurdles
Gold – Allen Johnson
Silver – Terrence Trammell

4x400m relay
Gold – Otis Harris

Gamecock Women’s Medals

Basketball

Gold – Shannon Johnson (USA)

Track and Field

400m

Silver – Tonique Williams-Darling

400m hurdles

Gold – Lashinda Demus

4x100m relay

Silver – Aleen Bailey

Bronze – Shevon Stoddart

In addition, but not included in the tally, Monique Hennagan, a former volunteer coach and Columbia native, is predicted to win the bronze medal in the 400m and a gold with the 4x400m relay. In USA Today it is predicted that Hennagan would win a silver in the 400m and a gold with the 4x400m relay.
