Erie, Pa. –
South Carolina women’s golfer Jenna Pearson won her second-round match at the 104th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship by claiming a 5-and-3 victory over Spain’s Tania Elosegui at the Kahkwa Club in Erie, Pa., on Thursday.

Needing only 15 holes to seal her victory, Pearson shot an even-par 60 and put a cap on her round with birdies on the 14th and 15th holes. The five-up lead she held as competition ended was her largest of the day.

With the win, Pearson advanced to the round of 16, where she faces San Diego native Beth Allen at 2 p.m. Thursday. Allen was a 2-and-1 winner over Hee-Young Park earlier in the day.

The winner of the Pearson-Allen match faces the winner of the match between
Jane Park and Mina Harigae at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Pearson claimed a thrilling 19-hole victory over Australia’s Nikki Garrett in first-round action Wednesday.
