South Carolina senior defender Sarah Lentz has earned SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors following the USC women’s soccer team’s wins over No. 7 Clemson and Charlotte last weekend. This is the first USC player to receive the SEC accolade on the year as the Gamecocks head into conference play with a 6-3 record. Lentz scored game-winning goals for USC in both matches.

The game-winning goal for Lentz vs. Clemson helped give South Carolina its first win against a ranked opponent since 1998 and the squad’s first win versus Clemson since 1996. Her golden goal in the second overtime vs. Charlotte came with just 33 seconds remaining in the match. All three goals on the year for Lentz have been game-winning goals. She is one of only three players to have started all nine matches for Carolina this year.

South Carolina women’s soccer opens up conference play on Friday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET at Auburn with a Sunday afternoon match on Sept. 26 at Alabama with kickoff set for 2 p.m. ET. USC returns home on Friday, Oct. 1 when the Gamecocks host Georgia.
