The equestrian team beat Berry College in a pre-season scrimmage yesterday at One Wood Farm. It was the first competition at the new facility.

Reining and horsemanship started out the competition. USC’s Katie Biffle took home the high score for horsemanship with a 76 and Junior Ashleigh Collins had the high reining score with 68. As a team, the Gamecocks won the western competition by 72 points.

In equitation South Carolina riders fell short by eight points but won equitation over fences by 43. However Gamecock riders still won high point in both events. Kristen Terebesi won equitation with a score of 75 and Sarah Lowe clinched equitation over fences with a 78.

The Gamecocks won both western and hunter seat with an overall score of 933 to win the scrimmage against Berry College, who had a total of 818 points.

“For the first competition at One Wood, and for a lot of the competitors we rode very well,” said Head Coach Boo Duncan.

The Gamecocks will begin there regular season next Saturday at the University of Georgia.
