Columbia, S.C. – For the second year in a row, the 20th-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols defeated the South Carolina Gamecocks at home as USC fell 3-0 Wednesday night. The Gamecocks fell 30-23, 31-29, 30-14 and are now 8-4 overall and 1-2 in the SEC. Tennessee improved to 13-1 and 3-0 in the SEC.

As a team, USC hit only .125 while Tennessee hit .284. The Gamecocks never hit above .200 as they hit .194 in games one and two and .021 in game three. USC kept the match close in game two as there were 17 score ties and six lead changes. The Gamecocks were up 27-26, 28-27 and 29-28 before a kill by Amy Morris tied it at 29 for Tennessee. An attack error by Shonda Cole put UT ahead 30-29, and a service ace by Annie Sadowski gave the Lady Vols the 31-29 win and the 2-0 lead in the match.

Tennessee came back in game three and held the Gamecocks to just 14 points. USC had 13 kills but 12 errors in game three to record their .021 percentage. The Lady Vols set the pace early and took a 6-0 lead. The Gamecocks were never able to climb into the game. The final point of the match came on another error by Cole.

Sarah Morgan led the team in kills with nine while Lauren Ford had eight kills and hit .238. Nicole Miller led the team in blocks with five.

The series between the two teams now stands at 22-21 with USC in the lead. The two teams will meet next month in Knoxville.

Carolina returns to action Friday night when they host Kentucky at 7 p.m. at the Volleyball Competition Facility.
