Sept. 30, 2004

Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina volleyball (8-4, 0-2) will wrap up a six-match homestand Friday as the Gamecocks host the Kentucky Wildcats (9-4, 1-2) at 7 p.m. at the Volleyball Competition Facility. This marks the 30th meeting between the two teams and USC leads the series 16-13.

The Wildcats are looking to record their first SEC win of the season while USC is looking to improve to a .500 record in conference play. Kentucky is also looking to snap a two-match losing streak. Their last victory was a 3-0 win over East Tennessee State on Sept. 17. UK has also already posted a seven-match win streak this season.

Kentucky is the only team the Gamecocks defeated twice last year. The Wildcats were also the last win USC recorded during the 2003 season. The Gamecocks have won the last eight meetings. The Wildcats’ last win came in 1999, a 3-0 sweep at the SEC Tournament.

Sophomore outside hitter Shonda Cole is averaging 4.12 kills per game while junior middle blocker Lauren Ford is recording 1.26 blocks per game. Redshirt freshman Lynae Vanden Hull leads the team in hitting percentage with .307.

The Gamecocks are also looking to win their first Friday night match of the season as they are 0-3 this year.
