FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The University of South Carolina women’s golf team carded its best round as a team on Sunday and finished tied for 17th place at the Mason Rudolph Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt University at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.

The Gamecocks shot 302 as a team in the third and final round of play and almost every golfer turned in her best round on Sunday. Freshman Blythe Worley finished strong in her first collegiate tournament, carding a one-over-par 73. Worley and sophomore Jenna Pearson led all Gamecocks, finishing in a tie for 38th in the three-day event. Pearson fired a two-over-par 74 in the final round.

Freshman Whitney Simons shot a 77 and completed play in a tie for 75th. Senior Tiffany Catafygiotu shot 80 and freshman Caroline Rominger finished six-over on the day at 78.

South Carolina tied with North Carolina for 17th of 18 competing teams in the tournament.

USC returns to the links on Oct. 8 when it begins play in the Franklin Street Partners Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
