Columbia, SC – South Carolina Cross Country will be competing in Fayetteville, Ark. on October 30th for the 2004 SEC Championships. The Gamecocks, who competed well during the regular season, are hoping to improve their SEC standings with an impressive peformance at Saturday’s competition.

Senior captain Jenny Lake is expected to make a run for the championship title after finishing seventh last season at the 2003 SEC Championships in Athens, Ga. Her seventh place finish was the best ever by a USC runner. The 2003 first team All-SEC and Academic All-American was the top finisher for the Gamecocks in each of their meets this season.

Freshman Amy Wike is also expected to make an impressive performance. Wike was the second finisher for USC in all five of the team’s competitions, finishing as high as fourth place at the Clemson Invitational. Freshman Rebecca Chain, sophomore Tristan Rackow and junior LaShay Shelton, the number three, four and five runners, respectively, will also lead the Gamecocks.

The Gamecocks finished 10th last season at the SEC Championships.

Saturday’s SEC competition will be broadcasted Thursday, November 11th at 6:30 p.m. on SEC-TV Weekly.
