Columbia, S.C. – The Gamecocks fell just short of a victory against the Auburn Tigers on Friday. With a score of 1162.4 for Carolina and 1165.9 for Auburn the Gamecocks lost by a margin of only 3.5 points.

In Hunt Seat, Carolina beat Auburn 611-575.5. Sophomore Sarah Lowe took the high score on the flat with an 82.0. Tara Brothers, Kristen Terebesi, and Bess Smith beat their opponents on the flat, while Sarah Lowe, Laura O’Sullivan, and Terebesi beat their opponents over fences.

In Western, the Gamecocks lost 551.4-590.4. Gamecock Freshman Katy Biffle claimed the high score in horsemanship with an 81.0.

After the competition Carolina hosted a scrimmage against Auburn Hunt Seat riders. The Gamecocks claimed victory with a total of 555-501. In equitation, Sophomore Jessica Boll had the high score with a 74.5 and Caitlin Sands had a high score of 73.0 over fences.

“After this morning’s disappointing three point loss, it was a great afternoon for our second team. Both Hunt Seat teams performed very well beating Auburn significantly in the morning and afternoon,” said Head Coach Boo Duncan. “One mental error the reining division really cost us but I am sure everyone on the team can think of some thing in their test they could have done better to gain back those three points.”

The Gamecocks next competition will be on January 22, 2005 when they host Fresno State. The competition is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. at One Wood Farm in Blythewood.
