Charlottesville, Va. – The South Carolina men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were defeated on Saturday afternoon by nationally ranked Virginia. The USC men’s squad fell to the 10th ranked Cavaliers 126-93 with the Carolina women’s squad losing to 14th ranked UVA 125-111.

Freshman Christy Williams continues to swim well for Carolina as she earned first place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:02.79. Williams also finished second in a tight 200 freestyle race with a time of 1:49.87, a NCAA “B” standard, just .17 seconds behind the first place finish. Senior diver Lauren King continues to dominate on the one-meter and three-meter boards with first place finishes in each event. She has won every diving competition that she has entered in this season. King was 307.87 on the one-meter and 309.90 on the three-meter. Senior Carolynn McHugh and junior Haley Skaggs also provided points in the 50 freestyle as they tied for second place both at 24.13.

USC men’s divers Dean Emmerton and Ian Balman led the way for Carolina as they each took home a first place finish. Emmerton was first on the one-meter with a score of 269.40 and Balman was first on the three-meter at 304.80. Junior Reid Duff had a productive day in the pool for Carolina as well with second place finishes in the 50 freestyle (21.17) and 100 freestyle (46.44).

Carolina returns to action Dec. 2-4 when the Gamecocks compete at the Auburn Invitational.
