Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina volleyball team will close out their 2004 season Saturday as they host the North Carolina Tar Heels at Noon in the Volleyball Competition Facility. The Gamecocks are 12-14 and finished 5-11 in the SEC. Shonda Cole leads the team in kills with 355 while Lauren Ford leads in blocks with 114.
This marks the 19th meeting between the Tar Heels and the Gamecocks and the Tar Heels lead the series 12-6. Last year, USC split with UNC defeating the Tar Heels 3-1 in Columbia and falling 3-1 in Chapel Hill.
The Tar Heels are led by ACC All-tournament selection Molly Pyles and have an 18-15 record. UNC is coming off of a 3-0 loss to Maryland in the ACC Tournament last weekend while the Gamecocks are coming off of a 3-0 loss to No. 12 Florida in the SEC Tournament.
Cole is the lone Gamecock on this year’s team that hails from the state of North Carolina while UNC has no South Carolinians on their squad.
The match is also “Family Day”. All kids that come with their family get free admission.
