Recap | Box Score

Charlotte Head Coach Katie Meier

Regarding Sakellie Daniels She’s almost averaging a double-double. She’s a point guard but her assists have just been incredible. She had 11 assists a game and came in here averaging 7 assists a game and came in here and pulled off another 7. She tough to guard. She’ll beat you with passing and penetrating so I’m glad we have her. You can’t press that kid and I was considering coming into it “I hope they press” because it makes Kell raise the level of her game.

I really give a lot of credit to my assistant Amanda Butler. The scouting report was phenomenal and she was telling me what sets they were going to call before Carolina would call it. They (the players) were coaching me. I told them in the locker room, that’s why they won.

USC Head Coach Susan Walvius

You have really got to give Charlotte a lot of credit. They do a great job of getting contact and getting low and finishing. I am really pleased with Lauren Simms’ job today defensively and offensively. Charlotte’s offensive system is actually our offensive running game, the only difference is, they pull up and shoot a three. Lea is growing in that area. I like what Lea is doing there. That is what we need to be doing more of. You saw in our first game that we are capable of doing that. They have a lot of experience on their team on doing that.

Regarding free throw shooting We just had that conversation as a staff. Our team, we have them shooting 300 more shots a day. For the most part we are fresh on the floor. We need to get to the point when we have a substitution and we get that lift off the bench. Tonight we substituted and had turnovers with missed assignments but the free throws are very important.

Regarding rebounds They really manhandled us inside. That’s really why I made the change with Lakesha Tolliver because she is physical. Melanie is doing a lot wrong within our system but she’s also doing a lot right. I am really excited about where she is going to be and hopefully soon. I’m really excited to see where she will be.

Regarding the team looking for a second scorer I am looking for that. I am looking for someone to step up and do those things for us. Lauren Simms does that for us. I have a lot of confidence in a lot of our players. Stacy Booker had a good day today. Maybe a start wasn’t what she needed. She is capable of being a big-time scorer for us.

Lauren Simms:

I’m proud of our team. We fought to the end. We didn’t give up.

Regarding momentum carrying into the Clemson game I think that is going to carry over good from this game. I think we learned to play together and play until the end. I think that is going to help us out when we play Clemson.
