The University of South Carolina men’s golf team finished third at the Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate at The Old Memorial Golf Club today. The Gamecock golf team shot 879 in three rounds of golf – shooting +15. Their rounds included a 296, a 286 and a final round of 297.

Kentucky won the tournament, shooting 872 to Georgia State’s 877 and USC’s 879. Stacking up well against the SEC, USC defeated the likes of Tennessee (887), Mississippi (888), Arkansas (889), Florida (893) and LSU (904).

USC’s highest finisher was senior Alex Hamilton who finished third with a score of 216. Hamilton shot a 73, a 66 and a 77 to finish the three-round tournament. He shot even par and was three shots out of the lead. His 66 in the second round was USC’s lowest round of the tournament. His 66 also tied for the best score of the tournament in a single round (with Florida’s Matt Every, who also finished third).

USC’s other scorers included: freshman Warren Thomas, who finished tied for 19th at 222 (72, 76, 72) (six over); junior Erik Johansen, who finished tied for 25th at 223 (77, 70, 76) (seven over); and RS-junior West Streib, who finished tied for 28th with a score of 224 (76, 74, 74) (eight over).

Playing individually, junior Robert Svensson shot a 221 to finish 16th overall at five over. He shot rounds of 72, 76 and 73.

The Gamecocks, competing in their second tournament of the season, finished tied for seventh at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate a month ago.

The 7,028 yard par 72 course challenged the Gamecocks and the rest of the Field including Arkansas, the College of Charleston, Florida, Florida State, Georgia State, Kentucky, LSU, North Florida, Ole Miss, Ohio State, South Florida, Tennessee, Toledo and UCF.

South Carolina will be in action next month at the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Georgia.
