South Carolina men’s track team had an impressive day one performance at the Clemson Invitational on Friday. The Gamecocks earned top five finishes in three events, while advancing others in the 60m dash and hurdles.
The men’s top finish of the day was the distance medley relay, consisting of Matt Hoffman, Aaron Luster, Shawn Cunningham and William Emase. The relay team improved from last week’s fifth place finish time of 10:27.17 to 10:10.29 to win the event finals on Friday in Clemson. Distance runner Steve Mance earned second place in the 5000m run with a time of 14:55.57.
In the field, returning off an injury, junior Greig Cryer finished second in the long jump finals with a mark of 7.28. Sophomore Jacob Minskey threw a distance of 15.68 in the weight throw to earn eighth place in the event finals.
In preliminary action, freshman Jason Richardson made another impressive performance in the 60m hurdles with a time first place finish time of 7.93. Leroy Dixon and Rodney Martin, who finished in the top five in last week’s 60m finals at the Virginia Tech Invitational, finished in fifth and sixth places in Friday’s preliminaries, both with times of 6.85.
Saturday’s action starts off with the men’s 60m hurdles finals at 11 a.m. and wraps up with the women’s 4x400m relay at 4:10 p.m. Results will be available following the meet at www.uscsports.com
