COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina freshman Mark Anderson has been named the Southeastern Conference Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Anderson turned in an impressive performance as he finished tied for first at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship, March 11-13, in Las Vegas, Nev. Competing against a field that featured eight of the top 10 individuals in the country, Anderson shot a seven-under par 209 and tied for first with UCLA freshman Daniel Im before falling in a playoff.

Anderson’s first round score of 66 was a career-best as well as the low score of the first day at the Southern Highlands. It also tied for the lowest round in the SEC this season. For the season, the Beaufort, S.C., native owns a 72.25 stroke average in 12 rounds, which is 11th in the SEC. He is ranked No. 13 in the nation this week by GolfWeek magazine.

The Gamecocks are in action this weekend at the EZ-Go Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga., Play begins on Friday, March 18 and continues through Sunday, March 20 at Forest Heights Country Club.
