COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina golfers West Streib and Laura McCaslin have been named to the 2005 Southeastern Conference Golf Good Works Team, the league office announced. The SEC sponsors Good Works Teams for all 20 league-sponsored sports. The Good Works Team highlights a student-athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.
Streib, a junior on the Gamecock men’s team, appears on the Good Works team for the second straight year. A business major, Streib has participated in The Next Step Foot Clinic Foot Ministry for The Homeless at Christ Ministries and has visited special education students for Exceptional Children’s Week at Harbison West Elementary School. He has also volunteered to help low-income and elderly families with their income tax return forms. Streib is a native of Atlanta, Ga., where he attended Marist High School.
McCaslin, a junior on the USC women’s team, has participated in the George I. Pair Elementary School Reading Program, the Teddy Bear Drive for State Troopers, World Children’s Day, Harvest Hope Food Drive, Coaches vs. Cancer and Toys for Tots. She has also visited children at Palmetto Hospital. McCaslin hails from Cookeville, Tenn., and attended Cookeville High School.
The Gamecock men’s and women’s golf teams are competing in the SEC Championships this weekend, April 15-17. The men’s championship is in St. Simons Island, Ga., at Sea Island Golf Club on the Seaside Course. The women’s event is at Tunica National Golf and Tennis Club in Tunica, Miss.
