Columbia, S.C. – USC’s equestrian team was recocognized on Wednesday before the start of the South Carolina vs. Clemson baseball game for winning the national title in equestrian last weekend in Santa Fe, N.M. The title marked the second national title in the history of the athletic department and the first of the varsity equestrian program. Freshman hunt seat rider Kristen Terebesi, of Glenmore, Pa., threw the first pitch of the game.

The Gamecocks started the season having moved to a new facility, with a new format and nine new riders added to the roster, but ended their season on the highest possible note. Under the direction of Head Coach Boo Duncan and assistant coach Joe Humphrey, the Gamecocks went to New Mexico last weekend to compete for the national title, winning the Varsity Equestrian Championship at the Santa Fe Horse Park on Saturday, April 16.

South Carolina won first place in the Hunt Seat discipline, scoring 40 points and then scored 20 points in the Western discipline, clinching the national title for the Gamecocks.

Competing in equestrian since 1997, it is the school’s first national title in varsity equestrian. Further, USC was the first major school in the country to sponsor Equestrian.
