BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Carolina’s Mark Anderson and West Streib are among the headliners for the 2005 Southeastern Conference Men’s Golf Awards announced on Monday by the league office. Anderson earned SEC Freshman of the Year and first-team All-Conference honors while Streib was named the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Men’s Golf.

Anderson, who hails from Beaufort, S.C., won two events in his inaugural collegiate golf season, the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship in Las Vegas and the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. He ranks 24th in the latest Golfweek Individual Rankings and boasts a 73.33 stroke average, the best of any South Carolina golfer.

Anderson is a two-time recipient of the SEC Golfer of the Week Award in 2005, and has collected four top-10 finishes this season. He is the only freshman to make the All-SEC first team and one of only two rookies on the first or second team.

Streib has compiled a 3.59 grade point average in international business and finance while minoring in Spanish. The Atlanta, Ga., product has been a member of the SEC Good Works Team each of the last two seasons. A three-year letterman for the Gamecocks, Streib has a 75.86 scoring average this season and placed 18th at the SEC Championships.

Kentucky head coach Brian Craig is the 2005 SEC Coach of the Year and Wildcat senior John Holmes garnered SEC Golfer of the Year honors.
