COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina men’s golf team turned an outstanding semester academically. The team posted the highest cumulative grade point average of any men’s team in the athletic department and a team record 3.558 during the spring semester. The golf team’s cumulative 3.513 GPA for the 2004-05 academic year was also the highest of any Carolina men’s team.

“We had a strong fall academically and we topped that performance this spring,” head coach Puggy Blackmon said. “I am extremely pleased with the tremendous effort our team put forth in the classroom this year.”

Freshmen Patrick Cunning and Warren Thomas, redshirt sophomore David Kite and senior West Streib made the Spring 2005 Dean’s List. In all, 11 golfers were on the Dean’s List during this Academic year.

Streib also collected an impressive pair of individual awards. He was chosen the SEC’s Scholar Athlete of the Year and won the Dean’s Award for Undergraduate Achievement in USC’s Darla Moore School of Business.
