Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s soccer team continues its preseason schedule on Saturday, Aug. 20 as the Gamecocks travel to Durham, N.C. for an exhibition match with Duke. The match is Carolina’s second of the preseason and the final test before next Friday’s season opener with Mercer at 7 p.m. at Stone Stadium.

“We are excited to play Duke,” said USC head coach Shelley Smith. “They have a great reputation and are ranked in the preseason polls. It will be a good opportunity to test ourselves against good competition before our regular season begins.”

The Gamecocks defeated Davidson 2-1 on Monday evening in the first exhibition match of the year. Sophomore midfielder Erin Sullivan and freshman forward Felicia Schroeder each scored in the Carolina victory.

“We figured out a lot about our team from our match against Davidson,” said Smith. “We were able to see our newcomers and some players in new positions. We’ll have Darcel Mollon in the lineup for Saturday for the first time as we continue to try to figure things out.”

Next week’s match between South Carolina and Mercer will be broadcast live at uscsports.com with live gametracker stats also available.
