The University of South Carolina, in conjunction with the Southeastern Conference, is participating in a conference-wide effort to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.
At the game this evening, USC will be urging fans, through public-service and scoreboard announcements, to give to the American Red Cross by calling 1-800-HELPNOW or logging onto www.redcross.org.
Fans attending USC’s upcoming game against Alabama, set for Sept. 17 at Williams-Brice Stadium, are encouraged to donate to the American Red Cross relief effort at that game.
Red Cross officials are saying that contributions of money are needed most.
USC President Andrew Sorensen is urging fans, friends, alumni and the entire university family to contribute to the relief effort.
“The devastation and suffering experienced by residents along the Gulf Coast are unprecedented and unfathomable,” Sorensen said. “All of us at the University of South Carolina join hands with out sister institutions in the SEC, along with volunteers and agencies throughout the nation and the world, to do everything within our power to ease the suffering of our friends and neighbors along the Gulf Coast and to help them reclaim their lives.”
